The refugee situation in Patras is quite bad. Perhaps you remember my visit last month (story and pics). The government has promised action, but so far the bureaucracy and bickering has stalled any actual movement. Now the government has a new plan that will have the illegal camps bulldozed by the end of May.
Would you join us in praying for this situation? Please pray that a solution is agreed upon that treats the refugees with dignity – and respects the neighbors. Please pray that the church will speak God’s love into the situation! We are traveling to Patras next week for a team retreat, and will have an opportunity to worship with the local Free Evangelical church. I have the privilege of preaching that Sunday. Please pray for our time together – that we might encourage the church. Here is a link to the most recent news from Patras, from ekathimerini.com
While there are some 1,000 migrants at the makeshift settlement at the port, there are another 300 Somalians in a new camp that has sprung up on the other side of the port and another 1,000 or so scattered across Patras.
